Join us as the curtain rises on our 2026-27 season! With music spanning from opera to ballet to musical theater, there is something for everyone in this concert that celebrates the stage. Experience the majesty and drama of Giuseppe Verdi’s overture to opera Nabucco, and be transported to the beautiful palaces, fountains, and gardens of Spain by guitar soloist Guido Sanchez-Portuguez in Joaquin Rodrigo’s gorgeous Concierto de Aranjuez. Hear the gritty drama and black humor of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony-award winning Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Suite come to life in a symphonic telling, and end the afternoon basking in the colorful sounds and sights of Manuel de Falla’s comical and exuberant ballet The Three-Cornered Hat.

Meet your fate with the Danville Symphony Orchestra! High drama awaits as your DSO tells tales of joy and woe, of tragedy and triumph—tales of the human experience, all through the power and majesty of the symphony orchestra. There are cautionary tales in the overtures from Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Emilie Mayer’s Faust, as well as Vincent Persichetti’s The Hollow Men, based on T.S. Eliot’s poem that ends “not with a bang but a whimper.” But not all is lost! End the evening uplifted, transported, and triumphant with a masterpiece celebrating perseverance of the human spirit: Beethoven’s magnificent Symphony No. 5!

Who better to tell stories than William Shakespeare…and what better way to experience them than with your Danville Symphony Orchestra! The season finale explores the Bard’s influence on stories and music across eras and borders. Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy and Bernstein’s West Side Story feature prominently as direct translations of Shakespeare, while works from Efraín Amaya and Giacomo Puccini touch the idea of star-cross’d lovers and tales of woe. Experience the righteous vengeance of a betrayed warrior princess in Smetana’s Šárka (from Má vlast), and hear the incredible artistry of your own DSO musicians as principal flutist Amanda Pond performs the virtuosic Fantasie Brilliante on themes from Bizet’s Carmen!
